We have a new promo for Ravenswood, and it is beautifully and creepily enthralling. What does the new trailer tell us about the Pretty Little Liars spinoff and Caleb’s (Tyler Blackburn) motivations for staying in the spooky, spooky town? Read on to find out.

Much like the previous Ravenswood promos, this trailer is heavy on the mythological imagery and light on the telling us what the hell is going on. At least, we get to hear Caleb’s dulcet tones. He tells us in a voiceover: “I’ve been pulled into something here I can’t explain. This town it’s hiding something, a mystery that begs to be solved. There are secrets in the shadows and the whispers. The only way I’m ever going to escape is to dig up the past and put it to rest.”

While he speaks, the video shows a raven flying away from the Ravenswood cemetery. A feather falls from the bird and into a stone bird bath. As the feather transforms into a black rose, Caleb snatches the flower from the water and into the light, where it turns white. He studies it, then places it into the arms of the stone angel we saw in PLL’s Season 4, Episode 6. The angel holds four other white roses, each perhaps corresponding to the other teenagers standing with Caleb in the cemetery: Miranda, Luke, Olivia, and Remy.

Aside from some very cool imagery, what does the Ravenswood promo give us? Well, it is Caleb’s first mention of what keeps him in Ravenswood following the PLL Halloween special. Though the synopsis for the Ravenswood premiere tells us that Caleb “opt[s] to stay in Ravenswood to help out new pal Miranda” and that the two choose to investigate the town, when “besieged by strange and supernatural occurrences,” we still don’t know why Caleb decides to stay in Ravenswood indefinitely. Obviously, it has to be something major to keep him away from Hanna, and Caleb’s use of the phrases “pulled into” and “the only way I’m ever going to escape” imply something at least semi-forced. Is Caleb being kept in Ravenswood against his will?!
