Ravenswood’s Caleb (Tyler Blackburn) and Miranda (Nicole Gale Anderson) have a lot in common. The official synopsis for the Pretty Little Liars Halloween episode that will lead into the Ravenswood pilot describes them as “kindred souls,” but what does that mean? Could Caleb and Miranda actually be brother and sister — maybe even twins? We speculate below!
Why they could be siblings
Miranda and Caleb are both feisty foster kids who have had to learn to take care of themselves over the years. They are both connected by Ravenswood’s mysterious curse. And, they both have gorgeous heads of silky brown hair. That’s enough to be going on, we think (especially considering Caleb’s parents aren’t exactly known for their truth-telling). It’s hard to guess at the relationship between these two characters given that the show has yet to premiere, but we think a sibling explanation makes total sense.
Why it warms our Haleb hearts
We’ve had a really difficult time puzzling out the relationship between Caleb and Miranda. We’ve speculated that it is romantic (or, at least has the potential to be), but that explanation doesn’t really match with what we know of Caleb, who has always been a loyal, loving boyfriend to Hanna (Ashley Benson). He seems to be completely in love with Hanna, so why would he choose to help Miranda over helping her? There seems to be a personal stake for Caleb (i.e. he has fallen under the Ravenswood curse and cannot escape it), but we think there might be a familial stake, as well. This would keep our Haleb hearts happy because we can understand Caleb’s desire to figure out his ancestry and to help a sister he never knew he had. And we think Hanna would understand that, too.
Also, Caleb deserves it
We could totally get on board with a sibling relationship for Caleb. Though he has younger half-siblings living in California with his mother, we don’t think he has ever really had the chance to engage in a sibling relationship. Ravenswood could give that to him (and to Miranda, who seems lacking in decent family members, as well). Though Caleb has found a new kind of family with Hanna (and Ashley Marin), that doesn’t mean he doesn’t also deserve a sibling relationship with the sister he never knew he had. Maybe we’re jumping ahead of ourselves here, but we think a Caleb/Miranda sibling relationship would be a great way to get us invested in their character dynamic from the beginning - without feeling like we’re betraying Hanna.
The family curse
It’s also worth mentioning that two of the five teenage strangers who are drawn together by the Ravenswood curse are twins Luke and Olivia. Could siblings and/or twins play a part in the curse? Given that it seems to be centered on one town, and that its residents seem to have some sort of weird fascination with the past, we think family bloodlines could play an integral role. Has Caleb always been cursed because of an unknown familial connection to Ravenswood? Will it be triggered when he drives over the town limits? Turn back, Caleb! It’s not too late to stay in Rosewood!
