Ravenswood shocked us by killing off one of its main characters, Miranda Collins (Nicole Gale Anderson) in only its second episode. Catch is: Miranda quickly returned as a ghost. Does Miranda have any hope of returning to the land of the living in anything but spirit form? Ravenswood showrunner Marlene King says we will find out in the fifth episode. Until then, we speculate below.

Yes, anything is possible in Ravenswood

If Alison can come back from a presumed death on the non-supernatural Pretty Little Liars, then Miranda sure as hell can on spooky Ravenswood. Sure, Miranda died a very real death by drowning, but her fate was sealed by some kind of supernatural curse. A curse we still don’t know very much about. We know that it is a historical cycle that repeats itself: a soldier miraculously returns home from war when all of his or her compatriots are killed, only for five teenagers to meet an untimely death in Ravenswood. However, the curse seems to have short-circuited this time, leaving Caleb, Remy, Luke and Olivia alive. Though the town seems to be going all Final Destination on them, we think that Miranda has a chance of returning if the other four involved in the curse can keep themselves from dying and, therefore, completing the cycle.

On a more meta-narrative level, we think Miranda has a chance at returning from the dead because, otherwise, the Ravenswood Powers That Be have written themselves into a bit of a corner with her character arc. Sure, there are plenty of “Miranda adapting to life as a ghost” storylines to explore - heck, Being Human created a whole show with this as a theme - but we don’t think that’s what they’re going for. Maybe we spend too much time watching The Vampire Diaries, but we’re not willing to give up on the mortality of any character until their actor is written off the credits.

No, she’s totally dead

On the other hand, having Miranda die and stay dead in only the second episode certainly does raise the stakes for the other characters on the show (especially our beloved Caleb). If a main character like Miranda can be claimed just like that, then any one of the four remaining teenagers could be next. And, while we don’t think Ravenswood is taking Miranda’s storyline in the “adapting to ghost-hood” direction, we have only seen two episodes of this show. While we thought Miranda’s quest would be about finding family and a home, we suppose that narrative could still be explored if she’s a ghost - it would just be trickier. More times than not on television shows, characters who die stay dead. It seems that Miranda pulled the short straw of the Ravenswood curse lot and was the first to go. We suppose it could be worse. She could be Caleb-less!

Do you think Miranda has a shot at coming back to life? Why or why not? Sound off in the comments below!
