R&B Divas Atlanta Season 3 Premiere: “Engagement to Enragement” — Here’s What Went Down!

KeKe Wyatt, Monifah, Syleena Johnson, Angie Stone, Meelah Williams, and LaTavia Roberson are already bringing the music and the drama in R&B Divas Atlanta Season 3! Here’s a look at the first episode.

Kicking off the episode, KeKe sits down with her hubby, Michael, and her mother, Lorna, to discuss the growing distance she feels between herself and fellow diva Monifah. While Michael and Lorna think that Monifah’s not being “shady,” KeKe’s not cool with what’s going on.

Meanwhile on the other side of town, Syleena and Monifah meet up for a little girl time at the gym. The two discuss Monifah’s new attitude towards life, starting with healthy eating and cutting people out of her life — notably, KeKe. She wants to surround herself with positive energy and she has come to the realization that she’s outgrown KeKe’s overly sensitive nature.

During their workout, Syleena apologizes to Monifah for the insane four-way blowout between herself and former diva Nicci Gilbert (as well as the clash between Angie and KeKe) that happened during KeKe’s birthday party in the Season 2 finale. Monifah was supposed to announce her engagement to girlfriend Terez that night, but couldn’t because of the melee. In an attempt to make amends, Syleena decides to throw Monifah an engagement party, to which Monifah tearfully accepts.

Aunty Angie invites the divas to a gratitude tea and decides she will spring the idea of a collaborative showcase. KeKe, Syleena, and Monifah arrive first, and KeKe confronts Monifah about not reaching out. When Monifah rebuffs that KeKe can also reach out, KeKe is dismissive. Syleena chimes in to squash the impending argument, but KeKe then turns her sights on Syleena, who she says has also been distant. Not wanting things to get any more tense, Syleena tries her best end the “dumb” argument in laughter.

Luckily, Angie enters the tea with Meelah (of 702) and LaTavia (of Destiny’s Child) and introduces the gals to the group. All the divas take a moment to go around the table and say what they’re grateful for, and LaTavia reveals she’s happy for her life despite her trouble with substance abuse, and Meelah opens up about raising her autistic son.

After the ladies have a touching moment together, Angie brings up the idea of doing a showcase. The divas are mostly in agreeance, but when they all leave they sing a different tune. Individually, Monifah discusses with Terez that it’s the dumbest thing she’s ever heard, since showcases are for amateurs in the business. Meelah and LaTavia talk amongst themselves and not only call the showcase a terrible idea, but also decide to stick together as they’re the new blood going up against the four older vets.

Later, Syleena begins preparing Monifah and Terez’s engagement party, and asks Mo what she thinks about KeKe and Michael being invited. Monifah’s OK with the idea, but thinks it’s time for cooky KeKe to grow up and start acting like an adult. Syleena then goes over to KeKe and Michael’s place to invite them to the engagement party, but makes it known that KeKe should take a moment to resolve her issues with Mo. Michael jumps in to say KeKe is only acting out because she misses her friend and Syleena agrees.

The night of the engagement party arrives and all the divas arrive. Syleena reminds the ladies that this is supposed to be a peaceful event, but things go sour when KeKe’s “joke” makes everyone cringe instead of laugh. Mo takes the joke as an insult and the two start to clash. KeKe decides that she will leave if no one can have a sense of humor and Monifah tells her to go. Finally, KeKe approaches Monifah to ask what she ever did to make Mo dislike her. Syleena pulls the two apart and puts KeKe in a corner to calm down. Meelah and LaTavia are both shocked and confused by everything going on as they thought all the women were friends. Angie is disappointed that a simple engagement party had to end in cursing and fighting and fears that if the divas can’t work together for a party, they certainly can’t work together as a group.

Can the divas work through their differences to make this showcase happen? Guess we’ll just have to tune in to see!

A new episode of R&B Divas Atlanta Season 3 airs Wednesday, April 30 at 10 p.m. ET on TV One.
