Bethenny Frankel Reacts to Bad Press: “I’m Sort of Numb to It”

Former Real Housewives of New York star and current talk show host, business woman, and single mom Bethenny Frankel is no stranger to bad press — after all, no one makes it through being a Real Housewife completely unscathed. However, some of the media reports about her new talk show, Bethenny, have been particularly harsh. How is she handling the criticism?

Wetpaint Entertainment recently caught up with the star after a Bethenny tapping, and she explained that she's taking it (mostly) in stride.

"It's funny — I don't think it's like get a lot of bad press, but then people I work with, and people that work with Ellen, they're like, 'Oh no, you get a lot of bad press,'" she explained with a laugh. "They tell me it's a little crazy.... I'm sort of numb to it."

She admitted that there are some things that bother her; specifically, when the media claims she doesn't take her show seriously.

"There are people, and I know who they are, that like to leak stories about me," she said. "And it's like roaches, you can't kill them, these stories, they're getting out there... It bothered me that [people were saying] I come in and out and I'm not in meetings. I'm in every single inch of every meeting... So, when it was something like that, it would bother me. If it's about my work ethic, or dedication to the show."

That said, she doesn't care if people are commenting on the ratings, which are "now improving." She admitted that she's an underdog. "I always have been," she added, citing naysayers about everything from her Real Housewives run to her now successful SkinnyGirl line, which is constantly growing (she recently added several wines to her wine collection).

"It's hard to break through," she added. "Very few people, I can think of maybe one in the last decade, have broken through in daytime television. Have really broken through. It's not an easy thing to do."

She added that she's in this biz because she sees a need for the kind of format she's providing. "I like the conversation between women," she explained. "I think it's an important conversation that no one's having... If someone else is willing to have it, then great, but I haven't seen that."

We think Bethenny's attitude is great. She's willing to take her show one day at a time and strive to create something she can be proud of. As she said herself, "It's a marathon, it's not a sprint."
