Love & Hip Hop Atlanta has seen its fair share of women, and no woman is probably as important as Deborah "Momma Dee" Gaither. While at times (OK, maybe all the time) this lady may seem come off as Lil Scrappy’s meddling mom, we have to admit that she’s definitely a “ride or die” chick. Here’s three things about Momma Dee we think you should know.
Momma Dee was a pimp… all from the confines of a hospital bed.
It’s no secret that Lil Scrappy’s mother, Momma Dee, was a pimp in her earlier days. The most impressive thing about her unorthodox line of work is the fact that it all started when the Atlanta mama was confined to a hospital bed. While bedridden due to a head-on collision with a drunk driver, Momma Dee was introduced to a life of pimping and ran a brothel for 10 years and let's just say, she was very serious about her job.
Momma Dee had to re-learn how to walk.
The same car accident that turned Momma Dee to a life of fast money in the pimping industry also took away something pretty vital — her ability to walk. The mother of two says that the car accident left her immobile and it took three years of physical therapy before she would be able to move around without support of a wheelchair and crutches.
Momma Dee has a degree in nursing.
Momma Dee wasn’t always in the madam business. Before turning her home into a ‘round the clock brothel, the Georgia native actually had a degree in nursing. However, due to the car accident that stripped her of her ability to walk, Momma Dee turned to a life of pimping and eventually selling drugs to make ends meet.
Momma Dee and co-star Joseline Hernandez have something in common.
Looks like Joseline Hernandez isn’t the only Love & Hip Hop Atlanta star that has worked in the exotic dancing industry. That’s right ladies and gents — Momma Dee revealed that the most outrageous thing she’s ever done to advance her career was stripping.
Momma Dee says she’d never date a man who didn’t have money.
All things considered, Momma Dee was a pretty lucrative business woman during her hustling days. So it would only make sense that she would want a man who had just as much ambition (and financial standing) as her. She’s confessed that even though she ultimately looks for a man with a lot of “soul” she’d “never date a man without money and goals!” Ouch!
