The subject of reality stars on the Walk of Fame has become a talking point after Kim Kardashian was recently refused a star, with the explanation being that she is only famous for reality TV.
Now, talk show host Wendy Williams is siding with Kim and her fellow reality stars, arguing that not acknowledging reality stars is old-fashioned and elitist.
"A spokesperson for the organization says that Kim does not qualify because she's a reality star, and she hasn't been nominated for a Grammy, an Emmy, or an Oscar," Wendy says incredulously.
"Reality stars are bigger than regular TV stars these days," she feels. "Like it or not, these reality stars are stars." She points out that someone like Melissa McCarthy is not known internationally, whereas Kim is.
Then, Wendy bangs the gong for two Real Housewives personalities earning stars on the Walk of Fame as well.
"And by the way, I would say that NeNe would be next on the Walk of Fame for a star, right?" Wendy says. "And I would give a star to Teresa in Jersey — you know, as long as she stays out of jail and commits to doing another season so we could watch her."
We can understand why some people don't want reality stars to be on the Walk of Fame, but we have to side with Wendy here. As long as a person is a well-known celebrity, they should deserve a spot. Plus, NeNe has more than proven herself, given that she has a thriving acting career these days.
What do you think about NeNe and Teresa getting stars on the Walk of Fame? Does it devalue the honor for other celebrities?
