Very quickly, fans of the Real Housewives of Atlanta are falling in love with Cynthia Bailey’s 14 year-old daughter, Noelle. Not only did the delightfully composed teen let us know she had a boyfriend, she finally let us meet him! In an utterly charming scene on this week’s episode, we were introduced to Arthur, Noelle’s super polite (and super cute) new suitor.
So, yeah we’re kind of obsessed with them. But then again, that scene was shot months ago - do we know if they’re even still together? We are, after all, dealing with young love here. But fear not, we checked in with Noelle’s mom, who filled us in on the latest.
Wetpaint Entertainment: Noelle and Arthur – still going strong?
Cynthia: They are still together, yes. And that conversation you saw on the show, between us and Arthur and his mom, that was a real conversation. They only showed a few minutes of what ended up being a really long talk where we set the ground rules. We said, ‘You always have to be supervised by an adult. If your grades start slipping, this whole boyfriend-girlfriend thing is over.’ There were a lot of rules that had to be put in place for us to be able to even support this…this union…at the age of 14.
But everyone, including your close friend Nene, is still freaking out that you’re letting Noelle date.
I mean, let’s be honest. When we say ‘dating,’ clearly, Arthur is not pulling up to the house, driving a car and taking Noelle to Vegas for the weekend. We take them to the movies or to the mall. At the end of the day, it’s a teenage playdate.
It seems like you and Noelle are very open and honest with each other about what’s going on.
Noelle comes to me and talks to me about everything – that’s how I raised her, I’ve always encouraged her to do so. I told her I would always be there for her, no matter what. So you can’t say that and then they come to about dating and you’re all of a sudden like, ‘I’m not hearing this, go to your room.’ That doesn’t get you anywhere.
Once Noelle really starts to date – and that day is coming, it’s coming – I think this is a nice little introduction into what it’s going to be like. As opposed to keeping her locked in a basement until she’s 16 then telling her, ‘Okay you can date,’ and she doesn’t know what to do. She’s on a leash, but I give her length on it. I didn’t have that growing up.
Arthur seems like a really good first boyfriend…
You know, Arthur’s dad has a carpet cleaning company and he works for his dad on the weekends so Arthur always has money. Any time we take them somewhere he always says, ‘I’d like to pay for Noelle.’ Even when I’m like, Arthur it’s okay, he insists. It’s really cute - they want to be independent. And I have to give it to him, he’s very proud to always pay. Her Christmas present was a beautiful necklace from Tiffany’s. Not bad for 14! So I don’t know who she’s going to date after him because he’s set the bar pretty high.
