You know you love a woman when you'll let her mother disrespect you time and time again and you still stay, still fight to make it work, and still want to join the family. So props to Todd Tucker on such a tough situation. But in tonight’s April 6 ep of Real Housewives of Atlanta, it looks like Mama Joyce and Todd may have turned a new corner!

In an awkward interaction, Todd gives Mama Joyce a tour of the “A Mother's Love” premiere set-up, and tries to engage her in conversation about Kandi Burruss's play. Is she excited, and is she bringing the family opening night? Joyce basically shuts him down, saying she'll ask Kandi about it.

Todd eventually gets to the real point, saying, "So I really want to talk to you, Mama Joyce. I know we've had our ups and downs. I don't know what it is from your side, but it's just — somewhere we kind of went wrong, and you looked at me as 'opportunist, he's not here for the right reasons, he's dating her friend.' There's just a lot of things that were said. For me, I'd rather speak to you directly one-on-one just to get an understanding."

Mama Joyce, who's shown with her arms crossed throughout Todd's speech, responds, "My main concern — Kandi said she don't know at what time I stopped liking you. … I didn't stop liking you, I stopped respecting you." Um, thanks?

And, of course, Joyce then brings back up her (much-discussed) issues with Todd taking a brief work hiatus a couple years back. “At first you just seemed to be a working guy, but then you got with Kandi and it was like the work stopped.”

But Kandi’s man is not about to let any more misconceptions continue. “I’ll explain this to you right now: I had to give up my job because of the situation, which was my decision,” Todd says, in reference to leaving his gig on RHoA after the two started dating. “I took a break. Production-wise, we’re freelancers, so I had a lot of money saved. I didn’t take a break and live off your daughter — not at all. I got calls for jobs, three months in New York, six months in L.A. Kandi was like ‘Babe, I really don’t want you to go away.’ I wanted to be with her, as well.” Sounds rational to us!

“I’m not here to get anything from Kandi,” Todd insists, adding, “I’m not here to get her money, I’m here for her. And I want you to get to know me so you can see that. So you can be like ‘I want that guy to be my son-in-law.’”

Todd then breaks our hearts with the following statement, “I would love for you to love me some day.” Aww!

Maybe it was his sweet delivery, or perhaps Joyce is just getting tired of being so angry, but next thing you know she’s opening up — and even maybe admitting to her own wrongdoing?!

“My whole existence has been about my children and I never want to see anyone take advantage of them,” Mama Joyce says, before admitting, “I lost one child. I put so much into her, maybe I’ve been a little too protective.” Wow! We never thought we’d see the day...

“I just hope you do have the right intentions toward her. And hopefully things can get better,” she then finishes. The two agree to work on communicating better, and then they even — gasp — hug! Maybe there’s hope for this relationship, after all!
