On August 9, an unarmed black 18-year-old named Michael Brown was shot and killed by a police officer in Ferguson, Missouri, a working-class suburb of St. Louis. We’re still learning more about exactly what happened leading up to Michael’s death, but police are saying that there was an argument over the police officer’s gun, which immediately preceded the fatal shooting. Michael’s parents, who say their son was headed to his grandmother’s house when he was killed, aren’t buying that theory.
Michael’s death has outraged his community and many others around the world, and several members of the Real Housewives of Atlanta cast have taken to social media to share their condolences and thoughts on the subject.

Cynthia Bailey shared her thoughts on Instagram today, August 11, captioning a photo of Michael’s grieving parents, “My heart, prayers, and condolences go out to the family and loved ones of Mike Brown. It is heartbreaking to feel like our young men cannot walk down the street safely without risking their lives. Let us all pray for justice and peace. #MikeBrown #JusticeandPeace #Prayers.”
Phaedra Parks, who has two young sons of her own and was actually in St. Louis when the shooting took place, seemed very disturbed by everything that’s happened. Quoting Martin Luther King Jr., Phaedra began, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”
She continued, “My thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Michael Brown an unarmed 17 year old black male murdered by police in Ferguson, MO (St. Louis suburb) yesterday. He was slated to start college on a scholarship this Monday. #KillingYoungBlackMalesShouldNotBeATrend #StopTheSenselessViolence.”
And last but not least, Porsha Williams Instagrammed a photo of St. Louis’ famed Gateway Arch and wrote, “ ! Lets just all pray for the grieving family of Michael Brown! The story is story is still unfolding...I pray justice is served. #RIPMichael #PrayersForOurYouth #Sad #StLouis.”
