During the April 16 episode of Basketball Wives, star Evelyn Lozada’s assistant, Nia Crooks, slapped Lozada’s co-star Jennifer Williams across the face, and now Williams plans to fight back with a lawsuit!
US Weekly is reporting that Williams filed a civil complaint alleging assault and battery on Wednesday. According to Williams, Crooks was “negligent, reckless and careless” when she slapped her across the face during an altercation that took place in a VIP suite at the Gulfstream Park racetrack in Florida on January 21.
In court documents, Williams claims to have sustained “serious injuries.” She also says she “suffered pain, shock [and] mental anguish” as a result of the slap.
Williams is requesting unspecified monetary and punitive damages as part of the civil suit, but also plans to file a criminal suit in Florida, where the fight took place.
As for why she chose to take this matter to the courts, Williams reveals, "If I can have a positive effect for women by fighting back with civil litigation it serves an important purpose.”
Looks like Basketball Wives is headed to the courtroom!
