Real Housewives of New Jersey stars Richard and Kathy Wakile were all smiles at Wetpaint Entertainment’s one-year anniversary event last night in New York City.

Wondering how things have changed between the Wakiles, Giudices and Gorgas since Kathy became a series regular? We got the inside scoop from Richie himself!

Wetpaint Entertainment: How did it feel to join the existing cast?

Richard Wakile: We hesitated before we joined the cast because we’re the only couple on the show that’s got kids in high school. We sat down and had a family meeting, and my kids were fine with it. We decided to go for it, and it’s been a great experience actually.

How have your kids’ friends been receiving the show?

It’s not even a conversation that they have with their friends. While we were filming, [my son] never told anybody that he was even filming for the show.

You’ve known Teresa Giudice, and Joe and Melissa Gorga for a very long time. Do you think it’s different interacting with them on a TV show rather than in your everyday life?

I’ve known Teresa since she’s been a teenager, and Joe Gorga, obviously. Has it been different? Things were a little different before the show started with Teresa, but with her brother Joe, things have been great all along. We’ve always had a great relationship. Even though there’s a big age difference between him and I, at a certain age in life — in your 30s and 40s — everybody just gets together.

Were you surprised by the response [Kathy’s sister] Rosie received as a part of the show?

Actually, we weren’t surprised. Rosie is the person that tells it how it is, she’s not trying to cover anything up. She’s the one that’s gonna be the shoot out star of this whole franchise, I think.

Do you find it weird watching yourself on television?

Most of the episodes, I don’t even watch. The five or six episodes that I’ve watched, I just feel like I’m in a family home video. It doesn’t even feel like I’m watching TV.

Do you think the men have become just as important to the show as the ladies are?

I think myself and Joe Gorga are just an extra couple of housewives on the show. You know, we’re filming it and doing it just as much as my wife and his wife are doing it, and him and I are having a good time with it.

Do the men appear on the Season 3 Reunion?

I don’t know. (smiles) I’m thinking that we do. You know, this is Jersey, and the men are a little different in Jersey than they are in other franchises. We’ll see what happens!
