Typical that Kim Zolciak can't even get through a rehearsal without getting mobbed by guys looking to buy her drinks. Check out these sneak peek photos of Kandi and Kim performing live on stage in Episode 3.3, "White Hot."
We've seen Kim Zolciak's vocal coach Jan Smith in a couple of episodes of RHoATL now, and while she may strike fear in the hearts of non-singers such as Kim, she boasts a pretty impressive list of celeb clients. But, Jan maintains, whether Kim's got the pipes to be a legit artist or not, "my job is to meet [a client] where they are." That's mighty big of Jan to say, considering Usher is among her mentees. Just saying. Imagine Usher's raw vocals...and now imagine Kim's. Exactly.
Zolciak was referred to Jan by Dallas Austin, who was about to produce some of her songs, and, at the time, Smith admits, she didn't even know who the Real Housewives were. "I didn't care, quite frankly — still don't," the no-nonsense coach commented.
Jan has no qualms acknowledging that Kim requires a lot of work to get her vocals up to snuff. "On the other hand," remarks Smith, "She has sold over a million records of her first single. I'm not really sure what that says about the folks who are listening, but if you wanna know whether or not I know the difference? I do."
We're pretty sure Kim's success thus far has more to do with astounding strides in auto-tune development (plus, the genius that is Kandi Burruss) than with her vocal capabilities. But, we're glad to know Jan, at least, is keeping it real.
