The exact reason Kordell Stewart decided to divorce Real Housewives of Atlanta star Porsha Stewart is still a mystery, but this much is crystal clear: the couple, who wed in May 2011, have no prenup. As Porsha herself revealed in a Bravo blog earlier this year, she went into the marriage believing they didn’t need one.
“We have the same beliefs when it comes to God and how we have our purpose shown to us by God,” she wrote. “So through bonding with him in mind, body, and spirit there is no place for a piece of paper to stand between us.”
But now that it’s clear the marriage is over, is Kordell — who, as a retired NFL player ranked the sixth most versatile player of all time, came into the marriage with the greater fortune — regretting not having Porsha sign one?
“Not really,” a source close to Kordell tells Wetpaint Entertainment. “True, he has a lot more money than Porsha, but he earned the large majority of it before they were married. They’re getting divorced under Georgia law, which means the only money to be divided is the money each of them earned during their two-year marriage.”
“These days, Kordell makes a nice salary as a sports commentator, but it’s nothing compared to the money he earned and amassed as a player. Again though, since he earned it before marrying Porsha, that money’s not up for grabs. So he’s not too worried about what the divorce will mean financially.”
And he’s already made it clear that he has no plans to be generous to Porsha in the divorce, requesting he pay her zero spousal support. ““[She's] an able-bodied person,” his divorce papers state, “earning income and is capable of supporting herself.”
Do you think Porsha and Kordell’s divorce will be very messy?
