We’ve been waiting for weeks to watch Kandi Burruss’s spin-off, The Kandi Factory, and the 90-minute special certainly delivered the drama, tears, and tunes.
The premise of the show was Kandi and her entertainment team’s quest to make two musical hopefuls into singing sensations in just one week. At the end of the week the most improved “artist” wins the opportunity to record their single and make a music video with Kandi.
The two contestants Kandi and her entourage picked, were Mathew Solomon, a performing arts student who was raised by a single mom, and Melissa Rose, a flight attendant and single mother of three.
Kandi wrote a song for each of the contestants that really forced them to face their vulnerabilities. Mathew’s song was about the pain he felt after his father abandoned his family, and Melissa’s song detailed her struggles as a single mom.
Melissa was an early favorite because of her superior vocals, but Mathew soon found his stride and gained the confidence he needed to do his thing. Before the competition in front of an Atlanta audience, Kandi surprised Mathew and Melissa by flying their families to ATL to watch them perform.
After the performances it was clear that Mathew and Melissa both worked hard, won over the audience, and owned their songs, so Kandi had a tough choice to make.
Ultimately, Kandi declared Mathew the the winner, on account of his vast improvement.
