Real Housewives of Orange County newcomer Lydia McLaughlin did the smart thing before joining the show: She asked for advice.

Lydia called up Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Brandi Glanville, who didn’t have the most encouraging words for the newbie.

“She told me not to do the show,” Lydia McLaughlin told OKMagazine.com in an exclusive interview.

But the former model had some practical advice for Lydia as well.

“Brandi just told me to be myself and that I could handle the show and that she supported me,” Lydia said.

Brandi wasn’t the only one who tried to discourage the mother of two from joining Real Housewives of Orange County Season 8.

“I definitely asked all my friends and family if they thought I should do the show, and everyone pretty much said I shouldn’t, so that was a lot to consider,” Lydia admitted. “But at the end of the day I would always kind of wonder what if, so might as well take the risk.”

With a laugh she added, “What’s there to lose, besides your whole life?”

We’re just glad Lydia decided to follow her gut and join the show. Hopefully she won’t regret it!
