When Real Housewives of Miami star Lisa Hochstein and her husband, plastic surgeon Leonard “Lenny” Hochstein, bought a $7.6 million home on Star Island, the couple believed they had found their dream home. Well, the perfect plot of land for their dream home at least.
Over the last few months, Lisa and Lenny have been fighting the Miami Beach Preservation Board and the MIami Beach Preservation League over the 1925-era mansion, which both organizations want to save from demolition. Lenny sued the city in March, claiming Miami Beach illegally gave the special interest groups permission to halt his plans to tear down the 88-year-old house.
But nevertheless, the Preservation Board cleared an application to designate the mansion a historic site, leaving Lenny and Lisa Hochstein waiting patiently for an answer as to whether they’ll be able to build the 20,000 square foot modern home they’ve been planning.
“Most homeowners of Miami Beach respect the history,” said Kent Harrison Robbins, attorney for Miami Design Preservation League, to ABC News. “This particular couple does not. This is a matter of preserving the historic resources of a community.”
Lenny and Lisa infuriated the Preservation League further when it hosted a Scarface-themed party based on the violent Al Pacino film and left the interior of the mansion splattered with fake blood. But according to Lenny (also known as “the Boob God”), the sprawling abode is falling apart at the seams.
“It is really not functional or safe,” he explained. “As a matter of fact, the engineers have said that the balconies can fall at any time.”
Lenny also accused the historic boards of targeting the couple due to Lisa’s Real Housewives of Miami fame.
“I don’t think there is any question that all of this was because my wife has notoriety,” he said.
Do you think Lenny and Lisa will eventually get to build their modern home, or will their hopes become history, along with their mansion?
