Protective little sister Kyle isn’t the only one with reservations about Kim Richards’ mysterious new boyfriend, Ken Blumenfeld. After Kim outed Ken as the man in her life while shooting the show’s second season this past spring, suspicion quickly spread around the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills set about his intentions — and his questionable influence on Kim.
It was recently discovered that Ken still has an active Match.com profile, even though Kim says the two of them have been together for over a year. Days later, it was revealed that he was arrested for a DUI in 2009. It was also reported that Bravo was considering banning Kim from the show unless she went to rehab. A Real Housewives of Beverly Hills insider tells Wetpaint Entertainment that several people on the set believe Ken may be doing more harm than good for Kim.
“Everyone had already been worried about Kim’s health,” a set insider tells Wetpaint Entertainment. “She was often erratic and unfocused when she showed up to film.”
And while Dr. Paul Nassif suggested the culprit was Kim’s prescription medication during a visit to his office, which was filmed on May 12, not everyone was sold on the explanation. “She would say she hadn’t slept for days — yet she’s on prescription medication that’s supposed to induce drowsiness and sleep,” the insider states.
A quick, dramatic weight loss was also cause for alarm. “I hadn’t seen her in about two weeks,” the insider recalls. “Then she arrives to film a scene with the whole cast and, all of a sudden, she’s about ten to twelve pounds thinner. She looked terrible, completely drawn and very unhealthy. Kim tells everyone she doesn’t drink or party anymore, but we’re worried that she still does — and that Ken enables her bad habits. Or at least it doesn’t seem like he’s doing anything to stop whatever’s going on with her.”
“It just doesn’t add up,” the insider finishes. “What kind of man — if he has the best intentions — lets you walk around in a confused, sleepless, distressed state like that? If he really cared about her, he would be encouraging her to get help.”
UPDATE: On December 5, 2011, reports surfaced that Kim Richards had checked into a rehab facility.
