In 1991, when Martin Short starred in Father of the Bride as uppity wedding planner Franck Eggelhoffer, we thought we’d never again see a man with such a flair for lavish nuptials. But during Episode 7 of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, we got our wish.
Enter Lisa Vanderpump’s fab wedding planner Kevin Lee, a flamboyant man who looks amazing in a skinny tie and will not settle for anything less than his own grand vision for what a Beverly Hills wedding should be.
It sort of reminds us of Franck’s overzealous attitude when he takes the Banks family to Beverly Hills wedding boutiques and Steve Martin is shocked at the price of table-settings and cakes. Franck also had a trusted assistant (with bad cellphone reception) by the name of Howard Weinstein, played by B.D. Wong.
In fact, now that we think about it, if Franck and Howard ever had a long lost brother, Kevin Lee could so be it.
Let’s break this comparison down quote by quote.
Kevin Lee: “The average weddings in Beverlly Hills for 180 guests, about... $1 million.”
Howard Weinstein: “Well, everything from the flowers, to the honeywood limo...”
George Banks: “You’re breaking up, it sounded like you said 150 ahead.”
Howard: “No, no! It’s 250 ahead.”
Pandora (on her wedding dress): “I want pink roses and pink diamonds....”
Kevin: “Oh, I don’t think so.”
Pandora: “100 percent, I’m having it.”
Kevin: “No way, that’s so tacky to me.”
Lisa Vanderpump: “What, you think it should all be white?”
Franck: “Uh-oh, I bring the wrong color thread. I assumed you’d be wearing a black ‘tuxado.’
George Banks: “It is a black ‘tuxado.’”
Franck: “I don’t think so, babe. This tux is ‘nuffy’ blue.”
George: “What’re you talking about? Armani doesn’t make a blue tuxedo.”
Franch: “Armani don’t also make polyester!”
Franck: “Moster Banks, it’s a very reasonable price for a keck of this magnitude.”
George: “A cake, Franck, is made of flour and water.”
Franck: “Well, welcome to the ‘90s, Moster Banks.”
Kevin: “Number one party in Beverly Hills.”
Lisa: “No, no something simple.”
Kevin: “No, it must be very spectacular, very grand... very Beverly Hills!”
