Poor Lydia McLaughlin! It only took the newest Real Housewives of Orange County cast member two episodes to dive headfirst into her fellow Housewives’ drama.
In RHoC Season 8, Episode 4, the ladies gathered to celebrate the opening of Tamra Barney’s new gym, CUT Fitness. But tagging along to the event as Alexis Bellino’s friend might have gotten Lydia off on the wrong foot with some of the ladies. Tamra called her “guilty by association” right as they walk into the party.
In her Bravo blog, Lydia explains how tense the atmosphere was — and especially how unwelcome she felt by Gretchen Rossi.
“Gretchen wouldn't even look our way,” Lydia wrote. “Watching it back now, I see that she obviously has a lot of issues with Alexis and I was just feeling that energy. However, that night, I felt like she was cold and unfriendly and didn't want me around.”
After watching the episode, Lydia said she understood Gretchen was dealing with a lot at the time with Slade Smiley’s son undergoing a serious surgery. But as a newcomer to this group of strong women, Lydia felt slighted.
“All I knew is I'm new to this group of woman and she would barely look look at me, yet alone talk to me,” wrote Lydia. “When I tried to engage her all I got was one word answers.”
When Tamra and Alexis had their big blowout over dinner, Lydia couldn’t believe what she was seeing with her own eyes.
“I had never experienced anything like this,” Lydia explained. “I was not mentally prepared for such passionate feelings of anger, hurt, and bitterness... I seriously am just overwhelmed and can't believe this is happening all around me and that I'm right in the middle of it all. I have a lot of respect for Heather and Alexis, so to see them upset I was taken aback.”
Despite the high drama, Lydia McLaughlin doesn’t regret her choice to join Real Housewives of Orange County Season 8.
“YOLO (You Only Live Once) is my ‘catch phrase,’ and is basically why I decided to do the show,” she wrote. “It seems to be my motto in this season of my life. I am excited for this journey and opportunity and am grateful you are on it with me.”
We’re excited to see more of what Lydia has to offer on RHOC!
