What’s stopping Real Housewives of Miami star Lisa Hochstein from having the home of her dreams? The city of Miami, apparently.

Local Miami station WSVN reports that Lisa and husband Leonard Hochstein want to tear down their 20,000 square foot 1920s mansion in Miami Beach, but the Design Review Board and Design Preservation League are barring the couple from doing so.

In particular, the Design Preservation League wants to renovate the home and preserve its historical luster.

“We believe that the proper engineers will be able to save it, and at less than half the cost they claim it would cost to restore it,” said Kent Harrison Robbins of the Design Preservation League.

But Leonard insists that the aging facilities of the mansion make it practically unsalvageable as is, including “cloth electricity located 30 inches below flood [level]” and “no plumbing to the second floor.”

Discussions are at a standstill so far, but the next review meeting will take place in March 2013.
