Lydia McLaughlin's the most recent woman to join the crazy cast of the Real Housewives of Orange County, but the Season 8 newcomer promises she’s “normal.” Perhaps the most dramatic thing about the mother of two is her friendship with Alexis Bellino.

When Wetpaint Entertainment spoke with Lydia at the Bravo Upfronts in New York City, we asked her what it’s like walking into a group full of wine-throwing women.

Wetpaint Entertainment: What’s the toughest part about being the new girl?
Lydia McLaughlin: Just being the new girl. For me, I get introduced to the group because Alexis brings me to a party and Alexis, at the time, most of them don’t like Alexis. So you’re walking in and they automatically don’t like me before I opened my mouth. So that was an uphill battle at first.

Who was the nicest to you, and who hasn’t been so receptive?
Actually, most of the girls have been nice. Heather [Dubrow]’s taken me under her wing and given me lots of advice. I thought I was going to get along with Gretchen [Rossi], but she was the coldest to me when I joined the group. I have no idea why.

What do you bring to the show that maybe wasn’t there before?
I’m different. I’m fresh, I have a new opinion and viewpoint and look. I’m don’t have any work done. I’m a normal girl.

Is that the reason you wanted to do RHOC, to bring a ‘normal’ voice to it?
I actually said no to the show at first because I said I’m not this crazy wine-throwing person. I still don’t know why I did it, but we’ll see!
