Lydia McLaughlin may be new to Real Housewives of Orange County, but she is learning early on about the difficulty of picking sides.

Lydia says that she didn't defend Alexis Bellino much during her meal with the other women during this week's episode because she was still getting to know everyone.

"First off, I would like to reiterate that when we filmed this, Alexis and I were just becoming friends," Lydia explains in her Bravo blog. "I liked Alexis, and I enjoyed my time with her, but at that point I started to see small contradictions in things she says."

Lydia acknowledges that Alexis's fans probably would have wanted her to stand up more for Alexis to Tamra Barney and Heather Dubrow, and Lydia agrees that maybe she should have.

"Of course, a true friend would always stand by a friend," Lydia says. "But for me, back then, I was just trying to figure out why the ladies had such issues with her and where I stood with it all."

"Looking back, I've learned that, with this group of women in particular, you probably just need to pick a side," she adds.

However, Lydia thinks it's time for Alexis to forgive the women and move on.

"If she wants to be part of the group, she needs to let the past go and forgive  even if she has forgiven 1,000 times already," Lydia writes.

Lydia also says that she doesn't know Brooks Ayers very well, but she likes what she's seen of him.

"I like Brooks," she says. "Vicki loves him and seems to be so happy when she is with him. I am an advocate for love, and as long as she isn't hurting anybody, they should date it up."

That is clearly not a popular opinion among the ladies on the show, but we're glad that Lydia feels open about going her own way.
