Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Yolanda Foster underwent surgery on Friday to remove a port in her arm used to treat her chronic Lyme disease. Yolanda Tweeted out a photo of herself in the hospital before the surgery with the caption, “❤Exciting day, getting my port out, xoxo.”

Yolanda revealed she was diagnosed with with the frightening illness in December when she Tweeted that she was having a port implanted in her arm to help with treatment. “Having a Port implanted, need to Start my treatment for Neuro Borellia Lyme disease, cant’ wait to get my energy back.”

Lyme disease is a tick-borne illness with a wide range of symptoms, including headaches, fatigue, depression and fever. In more extreme cases, the disease can cause problems with the heart and central nervous system. Left untreated, Lyme disease can be fatal.

Yolanda Foster realized something was very wrong with her when she found herself unable to think straight or function like her normal self. During a fight with Real Housewives of Beverly Hills cast member Taylor Armstrong, Yolanda told Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live that she couldn’t get her brain to make sentences properly and it scared her.

"The Lyme disease had so severely affected my brain functioning that it was extremely hard for me to think, form sentences, and stay focused,” Yolanda said. Realizing she was very sick, she sought medical help and was eventually diagnosed with Lyme disease. Her ongoing and very public fight to be healthy put a recognizable face to the illness and she embraced the challenge of being an inspiration to others fighting the disease.

“❤Love & Light 4 my fellow Lymies battling this brutal disease. I am ur voice and I will bring d awareness u deserve,” Yolanda tweeted on Thursday before going in for surgery.

Having surgery to remove her port is a very positive step in Yolanda’s recovery. The port is implanted and left under the skin when frequent blood draws and injections are required as part of a treatment program. Having the port removed is a good sign Yolanda is doing much better. We are excited to hear she has taken the next big step on the road to being totally healthy again!
