They say that any publicity is good publicity. So is that the case for Real Housewives of New Jersey star Melissa Gorga's new book, Love Italian Style? It certainly appears so.
The book, which hit stores on September 17, has drawn criticism for seeming to advocate what one critic referred to as "marital rape," based on quotes where Melissa says her husband, Joe Gorga, has active, take-charge approach to lovemaking.
A few sites are tearing about the book, but Wetpaint Entertainment has learned that Melissa is actually very happy about the sales. Love Italian Style isn't currently ranked too high on Amazon, but it's being sold in bookstores around the country, and those sales have been doing quite well. Fellow Housewife Teresa Giudice's books have been successful, it's looking like Melissa, too, is headed on a similar path.
The controversy surrounded her book may be good publicity, but Melissa still isn't happy about all the negative buzz. For her part, Melissa feels her book has been misinterpreted. “I’m so disgusted that a reporter has taken things completely out of context simply for shock value. #SAD,” she tweeted last month. “If you’ve read my book, you know that I am promoting mutual love, respect, honesty, and loyalty. #TRUTH.”
Plenty of people have read what the bloggers are saying. But they're focusing mostly on one specific quote about hair pulling, and not really anything else. So do you plan to read Melissa's book for yourself to see what you think? Because we're pretty sure there's a lot more to Love Italian Style than one or two quotes!
