The Real Housewives of New Jersey’s Teresa Giudice and Joe Giudice must dread every new hoop they have to jump through in the endless legal obstacle course they got themselves into — but their lawyers must be loving it! Each new court date is another (eventual) check in the mail.
Joe was back in Superior Court in Paterson, N.J. on June 2 for a status hearing in a driver’s license case, NorthJersey.com reported. He has to return to court on July 14 for a pretrial hearing on charges that he presented false ID to get a driver’s license while his license was suspended due to a drunken-driving conviction. If a plea agreement can’t be worked out, a date will be set at that hearing for his trial. He faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted on this charge.
But these state court charges won’t be resolved until after Joe and Teresa are sentenced on July 8 in federal court, in connection to other major charges. Joe faces up to four years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple charges of fraud; Teresa Giudice has also pleaded guilty, and faces potential jail time as well.
In case the situation weren't dire enough, Joe could also be deported at the end of his prison term. But at least they were cleared of some other fraud charges!
Still, it’s non-stop drama for the pair, and you know Bravo is ready to milk the heck out of it. The Guidices’s legal woes will be a focus of Season 6, which premieres Sunday, July 13 — after the federal sentencing but before Joe returns to Paterson for his pretrial hearing on the driver’s license case. The new extended promo for Season 6 ends with the couple’s eldest daughter, Gia, sobbing in her father’s arms, saying she loves him so much. She’s also shown saying she now wants to be a criminal lawyer, and Joe responds “We need them.”
