After watching plenty of yelling and screaming throughout four full seasons of Real Housewives of New Jersey, we’ve come to believe that anger that terrible (like, flipping tables over terrible), can only be real. But as it turns out, the producers may have more to do with the reality TV show’s drama than we originally thought — even orchestrating it!

According to Naughty But Nice Rob, a good bit of RHoNJ Season 5 may be staged for television. While the stars of the show don’t read from a script, it’s rumored that they’re definitely being told what to do and/or say.

One source who was present during filming told the website “I took footage on my IPhone and you can clearly see the producer guiding them through conversation and orchestrating the situations. It was kind of disheartening to see how involved the producers get. I over heard them say many times, ‘make sure you talk about this’ – and literally direct people when to walk into certain conversations.” Say it isn’t so!

It’s no secret that producers and directors of unscripted shows goad their stars into drama, especially when it comes to one-on-one camera time, but are the Real Housewives of New Jersey producers going too far?

According to the source, the producers had Kathy Wakile make a bigger deal out of the other H’wives not showing up to her event, so they can have some footage for the night.

“They made her and Richie have a 10-minute conversation about how annoyed they were that the other housewives didn’t show up, while Richie called all of them on the phone” said the source. I guess they’re really sucking the real out of reality TV!
