Real Housewives of New Jersey star Caroline Manzo is doing tons of press for her new book Let Me Tell You Something, and she had some interesting things to say about family dynamics. In a Q & A video with fans, Caroline reveals how RHoNJ (and the hefty salary associated with it!) has drastically changed her family’s dynamic.
“Do I think the man should be the primary breadwinner? It depends on the man,” she says. She goes on to talk about how — for the majority of her marriage — her husband, Albert, has been the one with the larger income. Since RHoNJ, however, things have changed.
“Now I make more than him,” she starts. “He loves it!”
She continues to knock down gender stereotypes by saying she doesn’t think a woman should have to halt her successful career to make her man feel better.
“If a woman had a career that she enjoys and she loves and she makes a great salary, it would be a shame if she didn’t continue with it because her husband wasn’t comfortable with it … that, I wouldn’t like to see. ”
Caroline thinks that when it comes to relationships, making an income shouldn’t be a problem, so long as the couple works on it.
“Do what works as a couple, because you’re a team,” she advises. “If a woman out earns her husband, he should celebrate it and be proud of her rather than see it as a failure on his part, because it’s not.”
Good call, Caroline!
