We’ve loved Kathy Wakile and her sister Rosie Pierri since they first appeared on The Real Housewives of New Jersey last season, and on tonight’s episode, Rosie has an emotional conversation with Kathy’s kids, Victoria and Joseph, in which she tells them the truth about her sexuality.
We spoke to Kathy exclusively about Rosie’s decision to come out to her niece and nephew, and according to Kathy, her family is now closer than ever.
Check out Kathy’s thoughts below, and be sure to read part one of our exclusive interview here!
How do you feel about Rosie coming out?
I think it’s great. After she came out to my kids, it’s brought them closer; Rosie feels like she can be her true self around them. She never needed not to be, but until you have that conversation, until it’s out there in the open — my kids never suspected it. They never ever even asked a question, they just saw Aunt Rosie and they just saw love, that’s all they saw. They don’t see things that way.
I know you see a 18-year-old and a 16-year-old and you say, "how is that possible?" but they never questioned, never asked. Actually, they were quite surprised when I did tell them and we all did have that conversation.
I think it’s great because it’s something that she was always holding back and not being her authentic self with them, and nobody should have to live that way.
Did Rosie talk it over with you before deciding to come out to Joey and Victoria on camera?
I had discussed it with [Rosie] first because it was never my truth to tell. They are my children, but if they had asked me then I would have waited some way or another to talk to them and get her approval first.
It’s not my truth to tell, I don’t feel that it’s anyone else’s truth to tell until they’re ready. She never hid it, but it never came up.
When we did discuss it she said, "Kath they’re your children. When you feel ready then I’m ready," and that’s how it all happened.
