During last season of The Real Housewives of New Jersey, Jacqueline Laurita and her family made the conscious decision not to discuss her son Nicholas’s autism diagnoses. Instead, fans of the show learned about Nick’s condition because of Jacqueline’s interview with People magazine. After the interview was printed, Jac also addressed some questions about Nick during the Season 4 Reunion of RHoNJ.
But now that everything is out in the open and the family has a treatment plan in place, will Nicholas’s struggle with autism be addressed on the upcoming fifth season of the show, which is currently in production?
Jac explains to Parents Magazine,"Taking care of our child's needs is obviously a huge priority in our lives, so we will be addressing it on the show. However, it'll be addressed with the intentions of bringing awareness to autism. I'm not comfortable with making a spectacle out of my son."
We gotta give it up for JL — that was pretty much the perfect answer. It’s admirable that she wants to do all she can to help others while also having the utmost respect for her son and his journey. And it’s not like she’s a stranger to filming either!
"I'm comfortable with opening up to the cameras because I know that nobody in this life has it easy all of the time and everyone has their good and bad days,” she says. “I'm OK with not being perfect or having a perfect life. I like that people can relate to me. I learn from watching myself and others. I think and hope that people will learn from us too."
