After over a year off of the airwaves, Real Housewives of New York came blazing back onto our TV screens on Tuesday night. Refreshed and looking fabulous, the Big Apple ladies are better than ever, now that fifth season newbies Heather Thomson, Carole Radziwill, and Aviva Drescher have settled into the groove. And, of course, it wouldn’t be RHONY without Ramona Singer delivering a healthy serving of Turtle Time each week!

Wetpaint Entertainment caught up with Ramona (and the rest of the gals!) at the Season 6 premiere party at Tokya Sushi Lounge and Nightclub in NYC on March 12. During our chat, she opened up exclusively about her new, healthier lifestyle, dealing with daughter Avery being away at college, and giving former sparring partner Aviva a second chance.

Wetpaint Entertainment: You look fantastic. How are you finding time to get in shape within your busy schedule?

Ramona Singer: I’m just getting into the gym twice a week. I’m also really getting into cooking. I have a lot of recipes where I’m cooking with fish, fresh herbs, and spices. It’s really non-fattening, and that’s also changed by body. I just eat healthier, and I’m not eating pork or beef.

Congratulations on the new season of RHONY — we’ve missed you all! How was it jumping back into filming after the hiatus?

It was easy. It’s like riding a bike, you never forget.

It’s great to see Avery here tonight. Is it tough adjusting to being an empty nester?

No, because I see her often. I either see her every four weeks, or she comes and sees me. And then, through social media, she’s texting me everyday and sending me photos. And it actually gives me time to cook and see my girlfriends.

Do you feel like, as she’s getting older, you’re getting even closer?

Oh yeah. It’s more adult. It’s just a better relationship because she is more mature.

Switching gears, we were really surprised to hear that you and Aviva Drescher might actually get along this season. Why were you willing to give her a second chance?

I felt, for the good of the group, that I needed to. If it was just Aviva and I, and we were autonomous, I probably would not have. But she is friends with a lot of my friends, she’s in our circle. So I said to myself, “Give it up, Ramona! Give her a chance.”

Are you glad you did?

Yeah. You know what? She does have a great side to her. She can charm the pants off of you, and she charmed the pants off of me! But, you’ll see as the show progresses, there’s certain women who, in turn, have altercations with her. And I’m sitting there thinking to myself, “Why did I make up with her?”

The Real Housewives of New York airs on Tuesday nights at 9 p.m. ET on Bravo.
