We understand that being on The Real Housewives of New York must be a lot more stressful than it looks. But is newbie Aviva Drescher going a little too far with recent claims that she and the Season 5 cast members are “like modern day gladiators”?

That’s what she told a Fox News correspondent (via RadarOnline) at the 27th Annual Great Sports Legends dinner in New York on September 25. “We are like modern day gladiators,” she says. “People have a need to see people battle it out in the flesh.”

We wonder if Aviva is being so dramatic because of former castmate Alex McCord’s recent accusations that she should suck it up, deal with the fact that she is getting paid to fight on TV, and stop playing the victim. Plus, by passive-aggressively criticizing the viewers (for their need to see people battle it out), she’s not helping herself.

”Although we have voluntarily signed up for these shows,” she continued, “believe me, each and every Housewife is made of pure steel."

Hey, we know these are some strong ladies. But Aviva might want to take a closer look at the relationship between her on-screen outbursts and the viewers’ interest. We think it’s more of a symbiotic thing, rather than a stadium full of flesh-hungry citizens demanding blood, while the performers (ie Aviva) have to fight for their life.

But maybe we’re the ones who are being over-dramatic.

The Real Housewives of New York Season 5 finale airs on Monday, October 1 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Bravo.
