A lot of New Yorkers were up in arms last week after Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s initial decision to go forth with the New York Marathon because it would mean resources devoted to runners rather than those displaced by Hurricane Sandy. Ultimately, that vocal backlash worked, and the event was cancelled. Former Real Housewives of New York star Bethenny Frankel, for one, was quite relieved by the change of heart.

She tweeted, “Thank God the marathon has been canceled. That was awkward.”

Awkward indeed.

Bethenny, who gave generously to the recovery efforts, had celebrated her birthday stranded at Newark Airport before ultimately making it down to Walt Disney World’s Epcot theme park to host a seminar on Skinnygirl Cocktails at the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival on Saturday.

Bethenny has now returned to New York and said that her birthday wish is just for fans to donate to the American Red Cross’ Sandy relief campaign.
