Just because The Real Housewives of New York Season 5 premiered with three new Housewives doesn’t mean we’ve forgotten about the ladies who used to fill their stilettos. As many of you know, Bravo fired four of the castmates after Season 4: Kelly Bensimon, Cindy Barshop, Jill Zarin, and Alex McCord. So what has Alex been up to since she lost her job?

Alex tells Celebuzz that losing the show caused a major life adjustment. As she says, “Being on the show is such a double-edged sword.” She continued, “These shows are meant to cover your real life; but the show actually swallows up your real life. So when there is no show, you have to completely start over. Your former life is gone … and reality TV is seen as a liability for some companies.”

Although Alex won’t be on camera for Season 5, she’ll still be involved by way of her new RumorFix blog, where she will comment on the current season’s drama.

But the harsh off-camera reality recently took a toll on Alex, when her 8-year-old son Googled himself. She says, “It’s a whole new conversation I never thought I’d have.” Still, Alex sounds happy to get away from the “nerve-wracking” experience of having cameras follow her family.

Alex and her colorful husband Simon van Kempen have reportedly launched a new linen line called Aluxe Home and Hotel Collection. Good luck to them!
