The Real Housewives of New York Season 5 premiered last night (June 4), and there was plenty of drama to go around. We met three new castmates, Ramona Singer and LuAnn de Lesseps demanded apologies from each other, and Heather Thomson made fun of Ramona for being on the cover of the Learning Annex course catalog.

Wetpaint Entertainment was lucky enough to speak with one of the original New York ladies herself, Ramona, in an exclusive interview at Serafina restaurant on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Hear what the blonde and bubbly housewife and her husband Mario had to say about the tension between her and the new girls, below.

Wetpaint Entertainment: What was it like filming with three brand new women?
Ramona Singer: You know what, I embraced all three women the same, and I really sincerely thought, when I read the bios of each three women, I thought Heather and I would have the strongest bond because she’s an entrepreneur and self-made like me. She’s married like me, with children like me. And when I met her and invited her into my home, I said, “You know what, Heather? If I didn’t think that we could become good friends, I wouldn’t even tell you this, so please don’t take it the wrong way. I find that you talk a lot and you don’t listen. You don’t give me a chance to speak.”

Mario Singer: She didn’t give me a chance either. Am I right?

Ramona: And then Mario jumped in. And then Mario goes, “Oh my god that just happened to me. That happened to me too, I tried to say something and she wouldn’t let me finish.” Our show definitely parallels real life. Basically when you get to know someone, I don’t want to say it’s work, and it’s not a job, you don’t know what’s going to come out. In other words, filming with Sonja and LuAnn, I knew exactly what to expect. I had no idea what to expect from these three women. And we had highs, and we had lows, and we had ups, and we had downs, but in the end-all, we had a lot of fun. There’s definitely a lot of drama.

What was your reaction when you saw Heather’s comments about you appearing at the Learning Annex?
She really obviously didn’t know too much, because Donald Trump spoke there, Russell Simmons spoke there, even the ex-mayor Giuliani spoke there. It’s actually a very renowned place and a very prominent place. And that’s how I am. I believe in helping women, in empowering women, and here I met her, and I don’t want her to say, you shouldn’t do this and hide what I do, I’m like maybe you should do this. If I can help someone, I’m more than happy to. That’s who I am.
