Teen Mom star Farrah Abraham set the internet on fire when she released her debut single, “Finally Getting Up From Rock Bottom,” earlier this year. Of course, she isn’t the first reality star-turned songbird who has received criticism for their musical work: former Real Housewives of New York star Simon van Kempen stirred up a media frenzy when he released his single, “I Am Real” in 2011. (Listen here.) When Wetpaint Entertainment caught up with Simon at STYLE360 Presents Gretchen Christine Collection by Gretchen Rossi during New York Fashion Week, we asked him for advice that he’d give to Farrah.

“You live your life once,” Simon told us. “You’ll have people say vile things about you. F**k them, live your life. You live your life yourself and that’s all that matters.”

As for any future recording plans, Simon says that he “wouldn’t rule out” releasing another single.

Maybe Simon and Farrah could team up for a duet! Make it happen, internet gods!

The Real Housewives of New York airs Mondays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Bravo.
