Alex McCord and husband Simon van Kempen may no longer be filming The Real Housewives of New York, but they still keep tabs on the drama. Close tabs. We found this out after running into the Brooklyn-based reality couple – who appeared on the show during seasons one through four – last night at the DL1961 Premium Denim Spring/Summer 2013 Runway Show in NYC.

In an uber-candid interview (as if there’s any other kind when Simon’s doing the talking!), the couple shared their thoughts on Season 5 – including whether or not they think LuAnn de Lesseps really cheated.

Wetpaint Entertainment: So are you guys keeping up with the show? Do you watch?
Alex: Well I have a job covering it, I write about it for the site RumorFix. But I’m happy to cover it. I’m enjoying doing that it more than I did filming it.
Simon: Ain’t that the truth!

Which seems worse to you: Scary Island or St. Barth?
Alex: Well they’re apples and oranges. Season three was a great season...
Simon: Except if you’re Kelly Bensimon
Alex: Right. Watching the St. Barth episode, though, I was very glad not to be there. It’s a special, magical place for Simon and myself…
Simon: If you go back to season one of the show, we filmed in St. Barts with our kids. Of course, Bravo didn’t pay for it back then, we had to pay for it ourselves.

What do you think of the new cast members?
Simon: Look, the ratings came out for Monday night’s episode late today and it got 1.928 million – which is fantastic considering the show’s in its fifth season – but it’s way down if you look at the three episodes from Morocco last season and the three episodes from St. John on season three. It’s still trending 30 percent down. It’s getting better … but it’s still taking people a while to warm up to the three new Housewives.
Alex: Were it not for my writing gig, I wouldn’t be watching.

Do you believe LuAnn cheated?
Simon: Look, Luann’s already admitted she’s a liar so it’s matter of, are you too dumb not to have learned, after five years, to shut your microphone off...or are you a slut?
Alex: I got nothing to add to that!
