On this week’s episode of Real Housewives of New York Season 5, Episode 16: “What Happens in St. Barts Doesn’t Stay in St. Barts,” Sonja Morgan mentioned that she has a $7 million judgment looming over her after she was successfully sued by a movie production company.

Sonja was sued by Hannibal Pictures when she and her movie production company, Sonja Productions, pulled out a film, Fast Flash to Bang Time. According to Sonja, she had to pull out of the movie after the film’s presumptive star, John Travolta, made demands that she was “unable to meet.”

Sonja filed for bankruptcy in November of 2010, saying that she had over $19 million in debt and $13 million in assets. Sonja allegedly blamed the bankruptcy in part on her botched Hollywood film.

In 2011, Sonja was ordered by an appeals court to pay Hannibal Pictures $7 million despite her bankruptcy filing. While many people think that bankruptcy is a way to get a clean slate, there are some debts (like the one Sonja had to Hannibal Pictures) that you must pay off.

RHONY Season 5 began filming in fall of 2011, so Sonja was still looking into paying back her debt during filming. The star said on the show that she plans on finalizing her divorce settlement with her ex-husband, John Morgan, in order to help pay off her debt.

The Real Housewives of New York airs Mondays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Bravo.
