Between all of the bickering over ghostwriters and incessant name-calling, Aviva Drescher actually experienced a very serious and moving moment on this week’s April 8 episode of Real Housewives of New York. The Upper East Side pot-stirrer took a break from feuding with Carole Radziwill to travel back to the scene of the accident that took her leg over three decades ago.
It all began when Aviva received an email from her childhood friend Becky Morgan, inviting her to visit Becky’s family farm — the exact place where the Housewife lost her leg at age 6. As Aviva has recounted in the past, she and her pal were playing in the barn cleaning machine when her leg got trapped. In what was surely a traumatic experience, she was then forced to have the limb amputated.
Aviva reveals that she hasn’t seen either Becky or the barn in the 30-plus years since the accident occurred.
“In my memory, this was a terrifying place, but in person, it was just a barn,” Aviva tells the Bravo cameras. And while checking out the cleaner that took her leg, she’s surprised to see how different it seems now. “This was such a meek machine to have done such damage,” she notes.
The Leggy Blonde author recently told Star magazine that not only was the visit “cathartic” for her, it was also meant to benefit her childhood friend.
“I hadn’t seen her in [the] 36 years since the accident, and I sense that she was absolutely riddled with guilt and pain over this day we had experienced together,” she reflected. “I wanted to meet with her to take the weight off her shoulders, because I harbored absolutely no ill will. We were kids. Accidents happen.”
Glad to see Aviva making peace with her accident. We knew she was a tough cookie, but this just goes to show how resilient she really is!
