Reality Check: Episode 1.3, “To Kill a Mocking Girl”

Look, we know that Pretty Little Liars is no hard-hitting, true-to-life documentary series, but even a frothy soap like this one sometimes strains our suspension of disbelief. We call them out on the times they faked it and didn't make it in this week's episode, “To Kill a Mocking Girl.”

AP Russian History exists: FALSE
AP European History is a real class. AP Russian History? Not so much. As it turns out, you can’t just add the letters “AP” and the word “History” to the name of a country and have it be a real class. (Hence, if you’ve been gearing up for “AP Canadian History,” we have some bad news for you — especially if you're Shay Mitchell. Sorry, Shay!)

The safest place to store your bike in the big city is leaning up against your front stoop, alongside a busy street: FALSE
We’re not sure if this ground-breaking news has made it to the PLL producers, but crime tends to be prevalent in major U.S. cities. (Also, just plopping a bike onto the set of PLL doesn’t automatically fool the viewers into thinking that the show is suddenly being filmed on location in a bustling metropolis!)

When the average high school student’s parents go out of town, the first thing they do to prepare for a party is rent a photo booth: FALSE
As it turns out, personal photo booths are about as commonplace as personal phone booths — or for that matter, any type of phone booth.
