Kiss having fun goodbye! 19 Kids and Counting star Jessa Duggar is starting to get serious with her boyfriend — but the two don't plan to kiss until they get married. Talk about willpower.
The show's new season premieres on April 1 on TLC, and the season will focus on 21-year-old Jessa's relationship with 18-year-old Ben, her boyfriend of several months. Jim and Michelle Duggar's children take part in what is called "chaperoned courtship" instead of typical dating, and Jessa is no exception.
Jessa and Ben are "dating with the intent to marry," reads a TLC press release. They "refrain from kissing or holding hands and always have a chaperone on dates, phone calls, and even text messages." The couple is now allowed a brief hug to say hello or goodbye, which is a step up from the "side hug" that they were first allowed. Baby steps.
Whoa! They seriously have someone listening in during their phone calls and supervising their texts? We're all about being aware of what's going on in your kids' lives, but you should be able to trust your kids at a certain point. And talk about putting a lot of pressure on your wedding night!
"They want to wait on the physical stuff until later," Michelle has said, pointing out that the couple won't kiss until they're hitched. Uh, is Michelle sure that Jessa and Ben want to wait on the physical stuff? Or is that what she and Jim want for them?
