Once Upon a Time Recap: Season 3, Episode 18 — “Bleeding Through”

On this week’s Once Upon a TimeSeason 3, Episode 18 (“Bleeding Through”) — Zelena snags Regina’s heart, young Cora gets around, and things get pretty spooky! Grab your Granny Smith apples and curl up for a séance you won’t forget.

Young Cora’s Man Problems

In the dirtiest, darkest tavern in the Enchanted Forest, we see Young Cora (Rose McGowan) working herself to death. When she (literally) falls into the lap of a strapping fellow, it’s clear that love (or lust) is in the air. Cora sees a royal crest and the dude claims to be Prince Johnathan — though we later learn that he’s just a gardner. Apparently the two had a one-night stand that left Cora preggers — with Zelena. We have to say that it’s pretty depressing to find out that Cora’s father is a nobody. When Cora runs into Johnathan two months later, he brushes her off. Just when it looks like Cora is down for the count, she meets young-ish Prince Leopold.

Cora and Leopold start to connect and she begins to eclipse Princess Eva in the eyes of Leopold, which is big news since the prince and Eva had been destined since birth. Just before Leopold and Cora are to marry, Eva overhears a conversation between Cora and Johnathan and tells Leopold that Cora is preggers with someone else’s baby. This sets Cora’s downfall (and Zelena’s abandonment) and Eva’s ascension to the throne in motion.

Back in Storybrooke, Regina and Co. perform a séance to ask Cora what happened with Zelena. A portal opens and a ghostly Cora escapes. After possessing Snow (Ginnifer Goodwin) and revealing all that went down in the olden days, the crew knows everything that happened in the past — which really turns everything we thought we knew on its head. “Wait, I thought our family was the good guys,” Emma (Jennifer Morrison) asks, echoing what we’re all feeling. Regina and Snow really connect in this episode, learning about the dastardly things their mothers did when they were younger.

Regina + Robin Hood = Forever

Tonight’s episode began with Regina (Lana Parrilla) discovering a basket of Granny Smith apples on her doorstep, obviously a gift from the Wicked Witch (Rebecca Mader). After another sisterly exchange, Zelena revealed that she was just keeping Regina company while Rumple (Robert Carlyle) was out getting Regina’s heart.

Over in the forest, Robin Hood (Sean Maguire) and his gaggle of merry men are defending the spot where Regina’s heart is buried — you know, since Regina entrusted him with this very important task. Robin was standing his ground, but when Roland wandered onto the scene, Rumple gave Robin an ultimatum: give him Regina’s heart or Roland dies. Obviously Robin saved his son — and shockingly Regina was totally OK with this. “Nothing is worth the loss of a child,” she said.

At the end of the episode, Regina visited Robin in the woods. He was very apologetic about the horrific turn of events earlier in the episode — but it’s clear these two are closer than ever because ROBIN AND REGINA MAKE OUT ALL KINDS OF YASSSS.

Zelena’s Plans Revealed!

We were already privy to Zelena’s plans — to use Regina’s heart, Charming’s courage, and Rumple’s brain to go back in time and achieve the life she actually wants — but our heroes found out what was going down tonight, all thanks to Belle (Emilie de Ravin). Belle was a little apprehensive to help our Regina at first, you know, because Regina locked her in a tower and tormented her for nearly 30 years, but she eventually agreed to help.

Zelena and Rumple shared a moment (much to our chagrin), and she came clean about her plan to him, inviting him to go back in time with her, giving him the chance to save Baelfire (Michael Raymond-James). Rumple seemed to be in agreement, but when the two shared a steamy kiss, he made the mistake of reaching for the Dark One Dagger.

The Wicked Witch revealed that she needs the birth of Snow’s baby (and the ingredients) in order to go back in time and take the life she rightfully deserves. But what is she going to do when she goes back in time? Snow things Zelena’s going back in time to kill Eva — which would completely change the future, killing Snow, Emma, and, most likely, Regina. We’re definitely worried!

Three Biggest Mysteries of the Night:

— When will we get to see more intimate moments between Regina and Robin Hood?

— What exactly will Zelena do when/if she goes back in time?

— Sure, Zelena needs Snow’s baby, but what EXACTLY will happen to the tot?
