Talk about being blindsided! We’ve heard a rumor that Sandra Bullock will be joining the cast of Downton Abbey for its fifth season. Heat magazine (via, randomly, South African news site IOL) says the Academy Award-winning actress is a “huge fan” of the show and is even moving to the U.K. so she can “be closer to the action.”
If Sandy is indeed relocating herself and young son Louis to England — a claim that she or anyone in her camp has yet to confirm — we highly doubt it’s for a maybe kinda sorta chance to star on Downton. Not only is that a big jump to take for the hope of a job, but we bet Julian Fellowes would be happy to take Sandra’s call!
It wouldn’t be the first time a major American actress has lent her acting prowess to the show. Elizabeth McGovern plays leading lady Cora while Hollywood legend Shirley MacLaine appears at least once a year for the annual Christmas special to play strong-minded American grandmother Martha Levinson. More recently, Paul Giamatti joined in as Harold, Cora’s troublesome brother and Martha’s wayward son.
We think someone of Sandra’s talent would fit right in but who would she play? Share your suggestions in the comments below!
