Redditors Flood 2-Year-Old Cancer Patient’s Hospital Room With Pizza Deliveries (PHOTOS)
When you have the munchies, don’t you wish someone would hear your plea for your favorite comfort food and it would magically appear at your doorstep? A brave 2-year-old girl going through chemotherapy got super lucky recently when an audience on Reddit answered her call for pizza.
Hazel Hammersley has stage 3 neuroblastoma and 18 rough months of chemotherapy ahead of her. She was hankering for pizza recently, so she enlisted some help taping the words “SEND PIZZA RM 4112” on the window of her hospital room. The sign was up for days without a single delivery, but suddenly everything changed.
The family would find out that a random person had taken a picture of the sign from outside of the hospital and posted it toReddit, where, in just a matter of hours, the post had reached #1 and the pizzas were arriving in droves. Hazel’s mom Lauren posted her thanks on the family’s blogOur Little Hazelnut, saying:
Hazel woke up from her nap to the smell of pizza and was so excited to chow down! Several other children and nurses came into the room, with music playing, and had themselves a wonderful Pizza Party. As of yesterday evening, there was more than 20 boxes delivered and more was coming! We had such a great time! However, due to the sheer number of pizzas and inquiries from the media, the hospital has asked that the pizza deliveries end and thank everyone for their support. But I ask the community to please continue supporting Hazel and other children like her through making donations to our funds or to Childhood Cancer Research.
Although the hospital hasreleased a statement on its blog to cease the delivery of pizza because of the sheer volume of pie, Hazel, her family, some of the other children in the hall, and many of the doctors and nurses have enjoyed the free food, according to jskinner1234, who claims to be Hazel’s uncle on Reddit. Commenters also continue to show their support with offers of free goods and services.
“What is her favorite movie, toys, cake (if she can have it), etc. I run an amazon shop and have some cards laying around. Time to give her some fun stuff to do :)” one commenter said. “I work at a salon across the street. If you'd like to come in for a wash and blow-out, it's on me. I'm sure you could use a relaxing moment,” another offered to Lauren.
The family asks that instead of pizza, those who wish to help out should donate toHazel’s Fund on the Talbert Family Foundation’s website. Also, joinHope for Hazel on Facebook to learn more about the little pizza-lover and get updates on her progress.
