Kandi Burruss Reflects on Marriage: “Pray For the Best But Be Prepared For the Worst”
Kandi Burruss has gotten plenty of flack for the tough prenup she and her lawyers pieced together for Todd Tucker to sign just two days before the couple’s wedding, but the Real Housewives of Atlanta star maintains that the prenup is just a realistic precaution she’s taking to protect both her assets and Todd’s.
When a Twitter follower called Mrs.Tucker out for going into her marriage thinking it was going to end (and even having a prenup at all) Kandi expertly defended her position as she has several times before.
“@mygirllightning that's sweet, but most people go into it expecting forever but now a days the divorce rate is high,” she shot back. “Pray 4 the best but be prepared for the worst just in case... Sad I know, but real.”
We get where this follower is coming from — how can you go into a marriage and prepare for the end of it before you even take the plunge? — but we also admire Kandi for being refreshingly pragmatic. She’s said before that her own parents have several divorces between them, and she even admitted to learning from Bethenny Frankel’s messy split and the former RHoNY star had a prenup in place before marrying Jason Hoppy.
Prenup aside, Kandi and Todd have been happily married for a couple of months now and they are currently vacationing together in Mexico, so we’re holding out hope that this duo can stand the test of time. Mama Joyce be damned!
Do you think Kandi’s outlook on marriage is too negative, or is she just being a savvy businesswoman? Tell us where you stand below!
The Real Housewives of Atlanta: Kandi’s Wedding finale airs July 6 at 8 p.m. ET on Bravo.
