We love watching Arielle breakdown what when down on TVD — if only because we usually need someone to commiserate with while our TVD-loving hearts are breaking over the latest tragic plot twist. This week, it’s Katherine’s (Nina Dobrev) turn in the spotlight.
“Remember a couple of weeks back when you guys were all like ‘No, Katherine can’t die’?” Arielle asks. “Yeah, that was adorable. Well, I’m happy to report that she’s feeling a lot better and once again single-handedly blowing up every storyline on TVD.” Yeah, she is. No one is effective at screwing people over as our girl Katherine — no matter whose body she’s in. Cue heartbreaking footage of Katherine-as-Elena breaking up with Damon (Ian Somerhalder), complete with walkaway smirk. So evil!
But, as Arielle points out, “[Damon’s] wasn’t the only heart Katherine broke this episode.” Katherine also made sure Tyler (Michael Trevino) found out about Klaroline’s tryst in the woods. And we totally thought Caroline (Candice Accola) was Katherine’s favorite. (Well, besides Stefan, obvi.) Tyler’s reaction was tough to re-watch, but it was worth it to see Stefan come to Caroline’s defense as the best BFF ever. More Steroline, please!
The best part of this week’s TVD rehash is probably the two-second tribute to the deceased Aaron Whitmore. Melancholic college boy, we hardly knew thee. Arielle gives us a slow-motion Aaron Whitmore video montage complete with stirring music. Tear!
The rehash also gave us a hint of what’s to come in this week’s episode: Season 5, Episode 13 (“Total Eclipse of the Heart”). According to Arielle, “Team Denzo is in full swing next episode, and Katherine’s making herself at home in her new bod just in time for a Valentine’s Day dance. Let’s see if she asks Matt what to wear.” Agreed. Why did we not get more of the Katherine-grilling-Matt-about-Elena scene? Why, show?!
