The Walking Dead Relationships: Glenn and Eugene? Josh McDermitt Explains

The Walking Dead may be a show centered around a specific group of people just trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic world, but there’s still time for our characters to have romantic relationships with one another, and boy do they ever! We’ve got Gleggie, which is the name for Glenn Rhee (Steven Yeun) and Maggie Greene’s (Lauren Cohan) totally legit union, but we also have ‘ships like Richonne or Caryl, which advocate for pairings that haven’t happened on screen yet and may never even get to that point. Richonne is for Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) fans, while Caryl supporters are those that want to see Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride) and Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) enter into a relationship.

We thought we heard of just about every ‘ship combo possible at this point, but apparently there’s one duo we’ve overlooked Glugene! As you may have guessed, Glugene ‘shippers want to see Glenn and Eugene Porter (Josh McDermitt) paired off. In fact, Glugene fans are so powerful that Josh and Steven have already heard of them! In an interview with Too Fab Josh explains, “I’m learning this new thing called ‘shipping… it’s just people writing fan-fiction and trying to pair different people up into relationships. There’s one relationship pairing on Instagram called Glugene and it’s between Glenn and Eugene.”

But if you thought Josh would be against the idea of a Glenn/Eugene union, then we suggest you think again! “There’s all these photos that fans have made of Glenn and Eugene in this loving relationship and I’m just dying. I texted Steven Yeun who plays Glenn and I said ‘Hey man, I’m going to pitch this storyline.’ He’s like ‘I’m in, let’s do it!’”

Something tells us comic book creator Robert Kirkman and company have other plans (and Glenn also seems pretty happy with Maggie these days) but you never know.

Aside from Glenn, is there anyone Josh would like to pair his character off with? “Sonequa, who plays, Sasha, she’s beautiful,” the newbie noted. “I think the more time Eugene spends with her the more he might start making a move over there. That might be fun.” And ‘shippers, Josh is one step ahead of you. He’s already dubbed Sasha and Eugene, “Sashgene”.

We kind of like Eugene as a doofy singleton and we’re interested to see if things escalate with Sasha and Bob Stookey (Larry Gilliard Jr.), but what are your thoughts? Would you like to see Eugene enter into a relationship with another character? Vote below!

The Walking Dead Season 5 premieres in October 2014 on AMC.
