Dancing With the Stars 2014 Wants Renee Zellweger to Anchor Oscar Winners Season?

Dancing With the Stars Season 17 just ended, but the casting rumors are already starting for spring 2014’s Season 18.

RadarOnline has a doozy of a story quoting an unnamed production source who claims the show would like Renee Zellweger to compete as part of an "all-Oscar winners series, that would include former Academy Award winners from all eras." They say Renee would be "offered mega bucks" to do DWTS.

If they got the Cold Mountain star, the source said, it would seal the deal for the theme. “The DWTS masterminds think the idea of having a theme of Oscar winners would be a sure ratings-grabber," the source said. "And it would be the perfect springtime ABC tie-in because the network already controls the rights to the Academy Awards show.”

They supposedly picked Renee since she hasn't done too much dancing since Chicago and there's some mystery around what she’s up to nowadays. Who knows how much of this is a serious idea, or if Renee would have any interest in doing the show. But it’s not like she'd be the first Oscar winner, since we've had Tatum O'Neal and Marlee Matlin on the show. Heck, Cloris Leachman has an Oscar — and look how well that turned out!

One interesting note in Radar's story is how casting Corbin Bleu and Elizabeth Berkley on Season 17 opened the door for other non-novices, like Renee. Is that a good thing, to have more experienced dancers on the show? Maybe it would be OK if they were all experienced, but to mix them with newbies feels unfair.

What do you think about this alleged plan to try and get Renee Zellweger to anchor an Oscars season? A pie in the sky dream? Hope it happens? Bad idea?
