Lea Michele Reveals What Music, People, and Places Inspire Her

Since she landed the coveted role of Rachel on Glee some five years ago, Lea Michele has become an inspiration to millions of people both young and old.The 27-year-old has a stellar work ethic, works hard for what she wants, and has dealt with the difficult last few months with an abundance of dignity and grace.

Sure, she may be a superstar, but in many ways Lea is just like a regular 20-something, and she has her own list people, places, and things that inspire her. Lea shared her list of inspirations with Teen Vogue, and now we love her even more.

First up, Lea shared several of her favorite songs and musical inspirations. “Firework' by Katy Perry gives me strength and makes me smile,” she revealed. And as you may remember, Lea’s own Glee version of the Katy Perry classic was pretty awesome in its own right.

The actress also cited singer-songwriter Sia as one of her inspirations, noting, “Sia is an incredible singer but also a fierce songwriter. Her songs are so powerful, raw, and truthful.” Sia helped Lea write “If You Say So” for her album, Louder. The moving track was about the last words Cory Monteith (Finn) said to his then-girlfriend before he died of a drug overdose last July.

Not surprisingly, Lea’s favorite flick also has a Glee connection. “My favorite movie is Funny Girl. I love Barbra Streisand and her character Fanny Brice is so inspiring,” Lea declares. “She's a woman trying to balance fame and love and she always leads with her heart which I admire. But she's so strong and true to herself.”

In addition to revealing various other inspirations, Lea also left us with some of her own advice. “Being your true self is the best, most empowering thing you can do. Finding joy and peace within is the greatest thing and makes you feel invincible and unstoppable,” she concluded.
