Nina Dobrev Reveals Which Superhero She Wants to Play! (VIDEO)
We already think Nina Dobrev (Elena) is a superhero, but maybe the world isn’t ready to recognize this absolute fact just yet. At Comic-Con, The Vampire Diariesactress was asked which superhero she would most like to play. Who did Nina choose?
“I can’t wait to be a Catwoman or a Mystique or something, someday,” Nina told MTV News, though she seems open to any well-written character within the superhero universe. Nina had some great reasons for wanting to be part of a comic book franchise, explaining: “I feel like superhero movies used to be a bit more action-y. There wasn’t much depth to them. [Studios are] figuring out that people want to see smart movies with smart characters that have a soul. They’re taking steps in the right direction. It’s making me enjoy the movies more.”
Well said, Nina! We totally agree — and we think the same could be said of TV shows. In our opinion, one of the reasons TV is enjoying a much-discussed golden age is because the industry has embraced serialized storytelling, which lends itself to greater character development. TVD is a prime example of this. Sure, it’s a show about vampires — but, really, the supernatural setting is just an excuse to put these characters into extreme situations and to see how they change.
Unfortunately, we probably won’t be seeing Nina suit up anytime soon. She pointed out: “Those huge movies take six to eight months to shoot, and that’s how long it takes to shoot a season of The Vampire Diaries. There’s no way I could do that until I finished the show.” Sounds like we’ll just have to settle for seeing Nina as a superhero on TVD, which is not a bad outcome. And, hopefully, one day, Nina will get the amazing superhero role she so obviously deserves and so earnestly seems to want: “But I’m a big fan of the genre, which is why I want to do it. I would love, love to do something like that.”
